President’s Corner

My dear friends and members,

Wow!  Between friends and family, club events and personal commitments, dental and health appointments -- the time has really flown by,

Hasn’t it?

Our New Members' Tea was so lovely, I wish you were all there.  We "out did" ourselves this

year.

It seems impossible, but that we are now talking about the holiday season already.  By the time you receive this, we will be planning our

Christmas Luncheon.  We are so lucky to have

each other.  I count my blessings, especially this

year when so many are having a difficult time

not only financially, but many have lost family

members or have family members far away serving

in the military.

Perhaps in a small way we may be able to put a little joy into someone's life with our contributions.

I would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year or Happy Holidays.

"LET'S WORK TOGETHER"

Love and Friendship,

Linda Anne Valentino

SAVE LIDS TO SAVE LIVES

I would like to remind everyone that I will be collecting the pink lids from Yoplait yogurt at both the November and December meetings.

Yoplait has guaranteed to donate a minimum of $500,000 and a maximum of $1.5 million to fight breast cancer.

All we must do is collect the pink lids from Yoplait yogurt and mail them in before the December 31, 2008 deadline.

I know that you are able to mail them in yourselves, but what a wonderful project for our Club. All it will cost is the mailing fee, and, working together we can really make a difference.

Please bring the lids to our November and December meetings, and I will mail them before the deadline from the Antioch Woman's Club.

Thank you so much!

Education

By Susan DeRoche, Co-Chairman

Welcome New Members!  On behalf of the Education Committee, I would like to welcome all the new members who were treated to the New Member Tea on October 22nd.  It was so nice to meet you!

Northern Illinois Leadership Seminar:  The two young women who attended the conference this year courtesy of our club, MISS ELIZABETH MADRZYK from Lakes, and MISS MEGAN PETTY from AHS, offered a few words at the October meeting.  Both expressed gratitude and told briefly of their experiences.  It was a pleasure meet them!

Baby Bags Coming Soon!  We will begin shortly to prepare our baby bags for new mothers in the Antioch area.  I will be obtaining all the necessary items, and members of the committee, DIANE BUSCH, ANGIE FASOLO, CAROL MAPLETHORPE, DOROTHY VOLKERT, and me, SUE DeROCHE, will assemble them for distribution.  They are cute, and very informative with regard to preschool literacy!

Epsilon Sigma Omicron:  ESO is a way to have your personal reading benefit our club!  All you have to do is make note of all the books you read on the recording sheets according to categories of your own choice.  (My categories have included such things as stories about women, books taking place in locations that I have visited, human interest stories; you can see that you can be very liberal with your categories!)  When you finish four sheets, each sheet a separate category of book, do this:  1) Make a copy of them for your own records.  2) Send your original packet of four sheets (20 books) to Neva Boyce, 9104 Vine Ave, Wonder Lake IL 60097. 3) Let me know that you have sent them so that our club can get credit for you!  Just ask Marlene Fernandez or me for a form.  Please join LINDA BAKULA, DIANE BUSCH, PAT GOONE, FRAN GROFF, SUSIE LANCASTER, AUDREY LYLE, CAROL MAPLETHORPE, DORIS MILLER, ALLENE NELSON, PAT SMITH, LINDA VALENTINE, and me, SUSAN DEROCHE, and become a member of ESO, and…enjoy!  (If I missed anyone, please let me know.  It is difficult to keep track!)

***PLEASE NOTE…A new recording sheet has been provided to us.  If you are in the midst of recording your books on the old sheets, PLEASE INCLUDE THE AUTHOR’S NAME WITH EACH SEPARATE BOOK ENTRY.  When you need more forms, you may get the new ones from me or on line. ***

BOXTOPS AND SOUP LABELS:  Thank you to all members who turned in Boxtops for Education and Campbell’s soup labels.  They were gratefully received by the WC Petty Elementary School.  They are redeemable for valuable equipment for the school’s use.  Please note…For Campbell’s products, only submit only UPC symbols and jar lids!

Happy Falling Leaves,

Our 2nd meeting was held last Wed. at the Senior Center, with 11 members in attendance.  Our thanks to Paul the Director for providing the space for our club. We are able to talk and carry on with out bothering patrons in a restaurant and have more time. We ordered out for lunch (Sub Sandwiches) the decision took some time so next month Nov. 20th it's (PIZZA)!

We are now planning our December 8th. Christmas Pot Luck Lunch. Any one wishing to attend please give me a call or send an e-mail.  All members and new comers are welcome!

We have added a new segment to our meeting. Every month we will have a member or two do a semi in-depth report on one of their favorite books. November is Audrey Lyle. We will continue with a short report on each book we exchange.
